Downtown Luxor

My first student and new friend, Noor, went for a walk with me yesterday. Friday is the Islamic equivalent of Christians’ Sunday, so there were hardly any people on the streets downtown. I finally took some photos and shopped for paper and pens with Noor as my bodyguard. He’s a big, lumbering man from Azerbaijan who is gentle and kind, contrary to my first judgement of him. We’re going to Karnak Temple and Hatshepsut’s Temple on Tuesday, after which there will be many more photos to share.
